Seniors
Benefits as a member of WSCC's Senior program include education, nutrition, socialization, health care and volunteerism. Annual Membership is just $17. Contact Jane Craft, Senior Program Director for more information at 303-733-4643.
- Nutrition: Senior Luncheons every Tuesday and Wednesday at noon; community breakfast first three Fridays 8:30-10 a.m., all ages welcome.
- Outings: Various excursions are planned monthly. These trips may include dinner theatre, seasonal tours, lectures, stock show, circus, etc. Cost varies per trip.
- Wellness: Senior Keep Moving exercise class, Tuesdays & Thursdays 8:30-9:30 a.m., $10 per month; Health Care Clinic, three Wednesdays monthly 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. includes health screening, nail care, blood pressure and sugar checks, etc. Cost varies with services provided. Special clinics are scheduled throughout the year.
- Transportation: The Center is located one block east of the #79 RTD bus stop. Attendees may also use private transportation or RTD's Access-A-Ride service. Limited provision for transportation is available through the Center for $1 round trip.
About the Director
Jane Craft has been serving at the Community Center for thirty-five years! Ms. Craft received her certificate in Gerontology from D.U., Denver, and graduated with a Teaching Degree from McMurry University in Texas. She also attended UNC and Metro in graduate studies. In addition to her Directorship of the Senior program at WSCC, Jane has served on the Mayor’s Advisory Council (13 years), State Secretary to the Colorado State Parent Teacher Association and as a Board Member of Community Resources, Inc. Her other community involvements are too numerous to list, but her participation has been honored with many awards, including: The Diana Award for Humanitarianism, from The Epsilon, Sigma, Alpha International-Volunteers of America- The Retired Senior Volunteer Program Site Coordinator of the Year Award- The Washington Park Good Neighbor Award-and a nomination for the J.C. Penney Golden Rule Award.
Children
WSCC has programs for children of all ages and from all over the city. Contact Martha Horstman-Evans, Children's Progam Director, for more information at 303-733-4643.
- Preschool: Ages 2 1/2 to 5, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Play-based learning with emphasis on school readiness featuring small classes, an exceptional staff, and art, music and drama activities. WSCC is a Qualistar site. What is Qualistar? Qualistar Early Learning is a statewide effort to elevate the standards of early childhood education far above the criteria currently in place by Colorado Department of Human Services. WSCC is now a Qualistar 3 rated program.
- Kids Club: Ages 6-12. Before and after school program. Also includes School Days Off, Holiday Camp, Homework Club, Art, Drama, Dance and more.
- Summerville: Ages 6-11, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. A day camp running June through August offering a variety of FUN activities and excursions.
About our Teachers
Stephanie Brandt, our head teacher, has been with the Center since early in 2002. She is currently completing her Behavioral Science Degree at Metro. By the end of this year, she will have completed her Director Qualified and ECE training at Red Rocks Community College, and is committed to at least two more years in our preschool upon finishing her degree. In addition, she stays current with 45 hours of ECE training every year. Her gentle, fun, and intelligent approach to teaching is what the WSCC preschool is all about.
All of our teachers are current in FIRST AID and CPR and complete 45 hours of various ECE training throughout each year.
About the Director
Martha Horstman-Evans has been involved with the Center since 1991. After completing a Fine Arts Degree from Webster University, Martha lived in New York as a performer, writer and teacher. Martha taught Creative Drama in the inner-city New York Public Schools. Here in Denver, she came to the Children's Program at the Center after creating the award winning "Character Education through the Dramatic Arts" for Slavens School, grade 1-8. Martha has also taught Drama at Steele Elementary as well as several Cherry Creek Schools.

School Age
Steele School- Annual gas fee of $20.00
Before - $ 11.00 daily $55.00 weekly
After - $ 11.00 daily $55.00 weekly
Both - $ 13.00 daily $65.00 weekly
Holiday - $170.00 per week (5 full days) Daily Holiday Rate - $49.00 per child (min. of 3 days)
