Programs

Seniors

seniorsBenefits as a member of WSCC's Senior program include education, nutrition, socialization, health care and volunteerism. Annual Membership is just $25. Contact Tanya Hammar, Senior Program Director for more information at 303-733-4643.

  • Nutrition: Senior Luncheons every Tuesday and Wednesday at noon; community breakfast first three Fridays 8:30-10 a.m., all ages welcome.
  • Outings: Various excursions are planned monthly. These trips may include dinner theatre, seasonal tours, lectures, stock show, circus, etc. Cost varies per trip.
  • Wellness: Senior Keep Moving exercise class, Tuesdays & Thursdays 9:00 - 10:00 a.m., $10 per month; Health Care Clinic, three Wednesdays monthly 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. includes health screening, nail care, blood pressure and sugar checks, etc. Cost varies with services provided. Special clinics are scheduled throughout the year.
  • Transportation: The Center is located five blocks west of the #12 RTD bus route. Attendees may also use private transportation or RTD's Access-A-Ride service. Limited provision for transportation is available through the Center for $1 round trip.

About the Director

Prior to joining the WSCC staff in May 2011 as the Senior Program Director, Tanya was the Education Coordinator at The Adoption Exchange. Tanya’s background is in program building and development, and she is busy learning about the needs of seniors - both as a group and as individuals - so that she can expand upon the wonderful programs already offered here. Tanya’s heart has been at WSCC since 2004, when her daughter attended the pre-school program.

Children

childrenWSCC has programs for children of all ages and from all over the city. Contact Martha Horstman-Evans, Children's Progam Director, for more information at 303-733-4643.

  • Preschool: Ages 2 1/2 to 5, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Play-based learning with emphasis on school readiness featuring small classes, an exceptional staff, and art, music and drama activities. WSCC is a Qualistar site. What is Qualistar? Qualistar Early Learning is a statewide effort to elevate the standards of early childhood education far above the criteria currently in place by Colorado Department of Human Services. WSCC is now a Qualistar 3 rated program.
  • Kids Club: Ages 6-11. Before and after school program. Also includes School Days Off, Holiday Camp, Homework Club, Art, Drama, Dance and more.
  • Summerville: Ages 6-11, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. A day camp running June through August offering a variety of FUN activities and excursions.

About our Teachers

Stephanie Brandt, our head teacher, has been with the Center since early in 2002. She is currently completing her Behavioral Science Degree at Metro. By the end of this year, she will have completed her Director Qualified and ECE training at Red Rocks Community College, and is committed to at least two more years in our preschool upon finishing her degree. In addition, she stays current with 45 hours of ECE training every year. Her gentle, fun, and intelligent approach to teaching is what the WSCC preschool is all about.

All of our teachers are current in FIRST AID and CPR and complete 45 hours of various ECE training throughout each year.

About the Director

Martha Horstman-Evans has been involved with the Center since 1991. After completing a Fine Arts Degree from Webster University, Martha lived in New York as a performer, writer and teacher. Martha taught Creative Drama in the inner-city New York Public Schools. Here in Denver, she came to the Children's Program at the Center after creating the award winning "Character Education through the Dramatic Arts" for Slavens School, grade 1-8. Martha has also taught Drama at Steele Elementary as well as several Cherry Creek Schools.

SUMMERVILLE Summer Day Camp  

Ages 6-11 (Space is limited to 20)

7am-6pm M-F  $185 a week     3 day minimum @  $53 a day

We have swimming, field trips, lemonade stands and car washes, Spirit Award, art, drama ,dance, fun and friends!

WSCC Charter bus trips are coming up soon! 

Breckenridge Fall Foliage Tour, Monday, September 19, 2011

  Witness Colorado in her regal autumn colors. The bus will depart WSCC 7:45 AM and take a beautiful drive up I70 and over breath-taking Loveland Pass (weather permitting) to Breckenridge. Enjoy a leisurely lunch and do some shopping. Take a stroll along the creek or explore the historic homes around town. We will leave Breckenridge at about 2:00 PM and take the scenic drive over Hoosier Pass to South Park and back to Denver on highway 285. We should arrive back at WSCC by 4:30 PM. The cost is $45 and includes bus fare, snack on the bus, and a tip for the driver.

Holiday Shopping in Georgetown, Thursday, December 1, 2011

  This trip is a favorite Holiday Season tradition at WSCC; make it a favorite for your family too! We'll head up to this quaint mountain town to explore the annual Georgetown Christmas Market. Get in the spirit of Christmas, munch on roasted chestnuts, and find unique gifts. Head over to the Happy Cooker or another local favorite for lunch. The bus will depart WSCC at 7:45 AM and return to Denver about 3:30 PM.  The cost is $38 and includes bus fare, snack on the bus, and a tip for the driver.
