PHILOSOPHY

Washington Street Community Center provides a rich learning environment with a developmentally appropriate curriculum, and environments designed to meet the needs of Pre-K children. Our program is designed to enhance children’s development in the following areas:  creativity, self-expression, decision making, problem solving, responsibility, independence, sense of exploration and reasoning. With our mixed-aged classrooms we successfully promote peer-learning, compassion and leadership. We are proud to offer a program which promotes the safety and well-being of each child through a play-based philosophy and strong emphasis on community building. We use Creative Curriculum®  based upon the Colorado Early Learning and Development Guidelines. This unit and inquiry based curriculum allows teachers to create, individualize, and implement social, emotional, physical and intellectual lessons that meet needs at various stages of development.

WHAT MAKES US SHINE

ACCREDITATIONS

WSCC Preschool is proud to be a 3-star Colorado Shines Early Childhood Quality Program. In addition, we are members of the Denver Preschool Program and work closely with the Denver Early Childhood Council who provide our teachers with coaching, access to professional development and funding for the classrooms.

CLASSROOM RATIOS

At WSCC, we have a strong belief that each child should build close connections - not only with their their peers, but also their teachers. For this reason, we choose to maintain a 1 to 8 adult to child ratio. This allows every child to receive individualized attention throughout the day and to ensure a high quality of care.

ENRICHMENTS

WSCC wants children to experience an array of activities to extend their learning. We work with community partners to offer various enrichment classes throughout the year, such as: Art, Soccer, Tae Kwon do, Music, Yoga, Dance and more! Each class is 30 minutes long and held in two groups, from 3:30pm-4pm or 4-4:30pm. Tuition for for 8-week sessions is $64.

NUTRITION/COMMUNITY GARDEN

Each year, WSCC works with community partners like the Denver Urban Gardens, Bee Safe West Wash Park, and The Table to provide our students with hands-on Seed to Plate nutritional education. Our gardening program teaches our students about responsibility, sustainability, and nutrition; impressing upon them techniques, nutrition awareness and skills that will serve them for a lifetime, and empower them to prepare healthy meals and snacks for themselves.
